Step 6: Implementation and configuration

MDM system installation

Start by installing the MDM system on your IT infrastructure. Ensure that all necessary software components and hardware requirements are met. This may include the installation of servers, databases, and middleware.

System configuration

Configure the MDM system according to your company's specific requirements. This includes defining user roles and access rights, defining business rules and data validations, and adapting the user interface to the needs of your users. Also consider the integration of existing IT systems and data sources.

Data modeling

Develop a suitable data model for your MDM system that maps the structure and relationships of your data objects to be managed. Define the necessary attributes, hierarchies, and relationships to effectively organize and manage your data. Customize the data model to meet your specific business requirements.

Data integration

Plan the integration of your existing data sources and systems into the MDM system. Identify the source systems that will be integrated into the MDM system and develop a strategy for extracting, transforming, and loading (ETL) the data into the MDM system. Consider data cleansing, duplicate cleansing, and maintaining data quality during the integration process.

Workflow Management

Define the required workflows for data maintenance and data release in the MDM system. Determine how data changes are approved, reviewed, and updated. Include automatic notification of users about pending tasks and management of approval processes.

Integration with other systems

Ensure that the MDM system is seamlessly integrated with your other IT systems. This may include connection to CRM systems, ERP systems, e-commerce platforms or other relevant systems. Ensure smooth data exchange and synchronize data between systems to ensure a consistent database.

Customization and extension

Review the configuration options of the MDM system and customize it to meet your specific business needs. This may include customization of data fields, forms, reports, and dashboards. Also check the possibility of extending the system by developing custom functions or interfaces.

User training

Provide training for users of the MDM system to ensure that they can use the system effectively. Provide them with the necessary knowledge about data maintenance, data queries, and data validation in the MDM system. Explain the benefits of the system and the impact on their daily work.

Test and quality assurance

Perform extensive testing to ensure that the MDM system functions properly and meets defined requirements. Test data integration, data quality, workflow processes, and interfaces with other systems. Identify any errors or inconsistencies and resolve them before final deployment of the system.

It is important to work closely with your MDM vendor or implementation partner during implementation to ensure that the system is optimally configured and customized to your specific requirements.
