Microsoft opens two data centres in Switzerland!

The two data centers in the Zurich & Geneva regions started operations today. In addition to the possibility of storing data geo-redundantly, Microsoft thus also offers local data storage in particular - which significantly increases data security & control for Swiss companies. As of now, Azure Services & Office 365 will be generally available from the new cloud regions in Switzerland. Dynamics 365 and Power Platform are expected to follow in 2020.

An investment in Switzerland as a business location

Marianne Janik, CEO of Microsoft Switzerland, says: "For us, the Microsoft Cloud Data Centers are an investment in Switzerland - for Switzerland. In discussions with our customers, it has become very clear that local data storage is extremely important. We are very proud that we are now able to guarantee that."

For Marianne Janik, the cloud has established itself as an innovation platform worldwide. Now we are also at a turning point in Switzerland. Companies have taken a close look at the cloud. Today, it is no longer a question of if, but when and how to go to the cloud. Microsoft Switzerland has been anchored in the Swiss economy and society for 30 years. Together with our 4,600 partner companies in all language regions, we are definitely ready to think and implement new things, together with large companies, SMEs and start-ups in all sectors, as well as public sector organizations.

Focus on data security, data sovereignty and business continuity

Demand for the Swiss Microsoft Cloud is huge - from corporations, large enterprises, SMEs and startups across all industries, as well as public sector organizations. The ability to store data in the Swiss cloud helps companies & organizations to comply with legal requirements. Regulated industries in particular (e.g. finance & insurance) benefit from national geo-redundancy, as this ensures business continuity in the event of a disaster.

Marc Holitscher (National Technology Officer, Microsoft Switzerland): "We not only see the opportunities of the cloud, we also want to take responsibility. Trust is a core Swiss value and trust is deeply rooted in the way we protect, operate and develop our platform." For example, Microsoft does not share business customer data with advertising-supported services, nor is business customer data analyzed for marketing or advertising. Marc Holitscher emphasizes, "The data belongs to our customers and we process it according to our customers' specifications. Likewise, we work closely with regulatory authorities - in Switzerland and around the world - to address the legal requirements of various industries."

Advellence is a designated Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) and thus a direct sales partner of the Microsoft Cloud "Azure as well as a certified Microsoft Gold Partner. Therefore, we are pleased to offer our Swiss customers the possibility to run their applications in Switzerland and to store their data locally and geo-redundantly.
