PIM, DAM, PXM – Who Needs What?

Decision-making aid in the confusion of terms

When marketing and sales teams reach their limits in communicating with customers and partners, the question arises as to how the management and provision of product information and digital content can be optimised. The market for the relevant software systems is as large as it is confusing, and those seeking information stumble across terms such as product information management (PIM), product experience management (PXM), digital asset management (DAM) and product content life cycle.

Figuring out which technology is actually suitable for individual needs is a real art. However, it is not only current requirements that play a role here – the future communication strategy and marketing and sales goals must also be kept in mind. For every decision made as part of the digitalisation strategy, the future viability of the selected systems and the sustainability of the associated implementation project are important.

In this document, we explain the most important terms in the context of product content management, summarise the basic requirements covered by these software disciplines and clearly distinguish between them.
